Places to visit while in the Greater Mekong Subregion

In 2014, the number of tourists that visited the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) is estimated to have reached 54 million, which is about 20.5% of the total number of tourists that visited the Asia-pacific region that year. In the next five years, the GMS has a target of luring over 70 million tourists to the area that will generate an approximate of 90 billion US dollars. Then there is the Shwedagon pagoda that is bell shaped and rises up to 100 meters above its hill top surroundings. Marvel at its courtyards, bells, the temples and the Buddha images as well.

Bagan

Bagan is the Asia’s largest archaeological site with over 2000 temples and pagodas that vary in sizes and that are in various states of repair and that spread across the plain. You can also visit the lacquer ware home industry with temples dating to as early as 1059.

Luang prabang

This is said to be the best preserved traditional city in the whole of Southeast Asia. It has a tranquil and charm brought about by the spectacular natural sceneries as well as cultural sights that make it one of the most remarkable places to visit while in greater Mekong subregion.
